Abhishek Bachchan Adds European T20 League to His Sports Investments

Bachchan’s foray in European League will add to the popularity.

Abhishek Bachchan has carved an image for himself as a marquee investor. Last year, Bachchan went on a shopping spree, acquiring six new flats in Mumbai, each costing ₹14.77 crore. The Bollywood star has now decided to venture into cricket, with an acquisition of a stake in the European T20 Premier League (ETPL). The league is sanctioned by the International Cricket Council . The financial details of the acquisition have not been undisclosed. The league will feature players from Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands—three emerging European nations in cricket.

"Cricket is not just a sport; it's a unifying force that transcends boundaries," Bachchan said in a statement. "The ETPL is the ideal platform to showcase cricket's growing global appeal. With cricket being included in the 2028 Olympics, its popularity will further surge."

The Emerging T20 Premier League (ETPL) is set to kick off with six teams in Dublin, Belfast, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The tournament will receive broad media coverage from prominent partners, aiming to reach global audiences, with a focus on key markets like Europe, India, Australia and England. Warren Deutrom, chief executive officer of Cricket Ireland and chair of the ETPL, praised Bachchan for his involvement in this league. “We are delighted to welcome Abhishek Bachchan as a co-owner of the ETPL,” said Deutrom. “His deep passion for sports and entrepreneurial acumen add tremendous value to our vision of elevating the status and profile of European cricket. With ICC’s support, Abhishek’s commitment to our shared vision, alongside the exceptional expertise brought to the tournament by Saurav, Priyanka, and Dhiraj from Rules Sport Tech, we believe we can create a cricket experience that elevates the game, inspires young talent, and provides a tremendous platform for European cricket on the global cricketing stage.”

While Bachchan Jr may not be quite the hitmaker like his father, he has an unmatched business acumen, unlike anyone else in the film industry and this is not his first sporting investment. From Crypto to Kabaddi, Abhishek Bachchan has turned his gold into fortunes many times by investing in the right opportunities at the right time. As he makes his first venture outside India, we’re taking a look at the sporting teams he owns:
