Manish Arora Becomes the First Indian Designer to Win the ‘Chevalier de la légion d’Honneur’

Veteran fashion designer, Manish Arora, becomes the first Indian designer to win this respected French honour

Manish Arora has become the first Indian fashion designer to receive the Chevalier de la légion d’Honneur,  in recognition for his accomplishments in the world of fashion. Francois Richier, the Ambassador of France, presented him with France’s premiere award for his outstanding contribution to the world of fashion. This award is the highest distinction in France and eminent personalities such as Pandit Ravi Shakar, JRD Tata and Amitabh Bachchan have also been bestowed with the prestigious award in the past.

 

Speaking at the occasion, Manish Arora said, “I’m thrilled and honoured by the recognition I have received from the country that I love with all my heart. France has been an inspiration always. I now live between Paris and Delhi and for me France is literally my own country. I hope to keep getting inspired by France, the beauty and elegance of the French people.”

 

According to Ambassador François Richier, “Manish has a long-standing connection with France, which is like a second home for him. He is a pioneer in bringing the fashion culture of both countries together with his exuberant imagination. I am delighted to confer this high honour on him.”

 

 

The occasion was graced by some of the most celebrated faces from the world of fashion, business, the arts and the media. It also saw renowned faces such as Priya Raul, Kalyani Chawla, Subodh Gupta, Ambika Pillai, Rajesh Pratap Singh among others, cheering and supporting the accomplished designer.

 

Manish Arora grew up in Malad, the suburban neighbourhood of Bombay and has become one of the most distinguished designers in the world. He launched his fashion label in the year 1997, after which he had a successful debut at the London Fashion Week, receiving an overwhelming response from buyers in 2005. He was then appointed as the creative director at Paco Rabanne in the year 2011 and eventually he opened a flagship store in Paris. His journey is surely an inspiration to aspiring designers and MW congratulates Manish Arora for his achievement!
