Julia Dreyfus Wins Her Fifth Emmy For Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Category

Veep takes top honours at the Emmys this year with a fifth consecutive win for Julia Dreyfus in the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category.


 

Veep takes top honours at the Emmys this year with a fifth consecutive win for Julia Dreyfus in the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category. The award was presented to the actress by Keegan-Michael Key and while accepting the award, Julia Dreyfus gave a poignant speech where she revealed that her father passed away on Friday, dedicating the award to him.

 

She stated how she is glad “that he liked ‘Veep,’ because his opinion was the one that mattered.”

 

Her father, William Louis-Dreyfus, was a renowned businessman and also an art collector.

Apart from thanking the cast and crew of Veep, the actress also joked about the show’s influence on the Presidential elections.

 

“While I’m apologizing, I’d like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the current political climate. I think that Veep has torn down the wall between comedy and politics,”she stated in her acceptance speech. “Our show started out as a political satire but it feels now like sobering documentary. So I certainly do promise to rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it.”

 

The other nominees included Tracee Ellis Ross for Black-ish, Amy Schumer for Inside Amy Schumer, Laurie Metcalf for Getting On, among others.
