Happy Birthday Sanjay Dutt: We Wish You Were Not Involved In These Controversies

He is one of the few actors who can do comedy and action with equal ease, and can also shift between playing the good guy and the bad guy.

Sanjay Dutt is celebrating his 57th birthday with a bang. The first look of his latest film Bhoomi is out, and by the looks of it, he seems to play a menacing character again. He is one of the few actors who can do comedy and action with equal ease, and can also shift between playing the good guy and the bad guy. He made his debut with Rocky, and has had a rollercoaster of a life ever since then.

Let’s look at some of the controversies he’s been involved in (we want to see them in Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming biopic on him), and hope that we don’t see any more in the future.

Mumbai Bomb Blasts, 1993

Dutt was accused of playing a role in the bomb blasts, and was even arrested under the TADA (Terrorists and Disruptive Activities) Act. He was later acquitted of these charges, but was found guilty of carrying illegal weapons. For which, Dutt had to spend a lot of time in jail, including the Arthur Road Jail, which is Mumbai’s largest prison. “When I reached Bombay airport, tab woh purana wala airport tha, I was coming down from the slide, and I saw 50,000 policemen pointing their guns at me, as if I was Osama Bin Laden,” he said at an event, speaking about his imprisonment.

Drugs, Drugs And More Drugs

Sanjay Dutt has admitted to trying all kinds of drugs, and even spoken about his struggle to get rid of his addiction. “My journey with substance abuse has been about 12 years. There are no drugs in the world that I have not done. When my father took me to America (for rehab), they gave me a list (of drugs) and I ticked every drug on it, because I had taken all of them,” he said in a press conference.

Politics

Dutt comes from a political family, with both his father Sunil Dutt and his sister Priya Dutt being involved. The Khalnayak actor himself dabbled in politics and created quite a stir by joining Samajawadi Party instead of Congress, which was his father’s party.

Love Life

Dutt has married three times, with Richa Sharma being his first wife. He had a daughter with her, but unfortunately lost custody, after Richa’s death due to brain tumour. Then, he married Rhea Pillai, but even that marriage didn’t stand the test of time after Dutt was romantically linked with Kaante co-star Nadia Durrani. In 2008, he married Manyata, but even that marriage was not without controversy as his sisters didn’t attend the wedding.
