Todd Phillips’ Joker has scored a leading 11 Oscars 2020 nominations, including best picture, best director for Phillips and best actor for Joaquin Phoenix. The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Sam Mendes’ war drama 1917 follow closely behind with 10 noms each. These films, along with Ford v Ferrari, Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story and Parasite will compete for best picture.

A documentary film by two Indian American filmmakers Smriti Mudhra and Sami Khan, St Louis Superman, has also earned an Oscar nomination in the best documentary short subject category at the Oscars.
The film profiles the journey of Ferguson activist and rapper Bruce Franks Jr on his way to being elected to the white, Republican Missouri House of Representatives. It shows how he must overcome personal hardships and fight political battles to pass a bill that is extremely crucial to his community.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap congratulated Mundhra on earing the Oscar nod.
