Oldest Cricket Players Who Will be a Part of the IPL 2025 Auction

Age is just a number for these veterans

The mega auction for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League 2025 is anticipated to be a grand spectacle, as all ten teams would look to arrive at the best possible combination for their team. A host of Indian and overseas cricketing stars will go under the hammer on November 24-25, 2024 in Jeddah.

Out of 574 players who made it to the final list, 366 are Indians and the rest are overseas players. A total of 204 vacant slots will be available for ten franchises. From a 13-year-old batter to a 42-year-old pacer, a talent pool of different ages and expertise will assemble for cricket's biggest extravaganza. We look at some of the oldest players participating in the Indian Premier League 2025 auction. Although MS Dhoni, 43, would be the oldest player in the Indian Premier League, he has already been retained by Chennai Super Kings, so he'll be excluded from this list.

5 of the Oldest Players to Partake in the IPL 2025 Auction

James Anderson, England, Age - 42

The most surprising name that came up during the auction shortlisting was James Anderson. The seasoned English fast bowler with over 600 Test wickets, is known for his swing and seam movement. However, he hasn't had much experience when it comes to the shortest format of the game. Yet he decided to take a shot in the dark by registering for the IPL 2025 auction. Will he find any takers? Perhaps the franchise can make great use of his overall experience.

Faf du Plessis, South Africa, Age - 40

The talented South African batter Faf du Plessis was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore. He captained the team for two seasons, after Kohli stepped down from captaincy. Du Plessis might be a shadow of his former self, but he still has a lot to contribute, and a team looking for a seasoned Powerplay tormentor can bid for him.

Mohammad Nabi, Afghanistan, Age - 40

Mohammad Nabi, a veteran all-rounder from Afghanistan, was a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad last season where he got limited opportunity. He has played 24 IPL matches so far over the course of six years and would be a handy pick for teams looking to strengthen their bench squad. His ability to change the course of the game with a quick cameo or a vital breakthrough makes him a crucial player in T20 cricket.

David Warner, Australia, Age - 38

David Warner will be going to the auction, after being released by Delhi Capitals. The dynamic Australian opener is an IPL legend, having won the championship with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. Warner has also retired from all formats of international cricket and has become a T20 freelancer now. Despite his age, Warner continues to be a potent force with the bat, capable of single-handedly winning games for his team. In the IPL auction 2025, Warner is expected to attract a lot of attention from franchises looking for a proven match-winner at the top of the order.

Ravichandran Ashwin, India, Age - 38

R Ashwin might have received a lot of flak for his underwhelming performance in the recently concluded Test series against Australia, but he is still regarded among the smartest bowlers in the T20s. Ashwin is rumoured to return to the Chennai Super Kings, a franchise where it all began for him.
