The Most Expensive Indian TV Shows

History, mythology and VFX is a costly cocktail.

We all know how Bollywood spends big bucks on making movies every year. But little do people know that Indian Television is in the same league and that most television producers opt for sets that involve huge monetary investments. So here is a list of some television series that have broken away from the usual clichéd style of filming and are some of the most expensive Indian TV shows to have ever been created.

Bigg Boss

Bigg Boss’ prize money is a whopping 50 lakh for the winner while each of its episodes cost about 2-4 crore. Of course, then there is Salman Khan’s fee for each episode which makes it the most expensive reality show on TV.

Jodha Akbar

Since the show is a period drama, the producers have spent a bomb on sets and the costumes for its stars so that the show has the same appeal as that of the film (by the same name starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan).

Mahabharat

This show received a lot of accolades from its audiences since it was a remake of the original Mahabharat that aired years ago on Indian television. The producers of the show ensured its success by spending almost a 100 crores on the elaborate sets and the VFX.

Shani

This show beat Mahabharat to become the most expensive series on Indian television. A good amount of money was spent on the set which spread across 65,000 square feet.

24

Starring Anil Kapoor in the lead, the cost of 24 for each episode was about 2 crore, making it one of the most expensive series in the history of Indian television. This show was based on the American series of the same name.
