Hello there, Upper East Siders. Gossip Girl here. A few days ago, the famous (the one and only) Salim Merchant of the composer duo Salim-Sulaiman alleged that Yash Raj Films had not paid him royalties despite having pocketed them all along. He further stated that this was the reason he hadn’t worked with YRF for the past four years.
“Yash Raj has been collecting money on behalf of the composer and lyricist — that much I know — but I don’t know whether they have paid anyone. They have certainly not paid me and Sulaiman,” Merchant told The Quint.
According to India Today, he also stated that T-series had also not cleared his dues. On November 20, an FIR was reportedly filed against YRF by the Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS) which is made up of singers, lyricists and composers. It has been alleged that the production house has actually pocketed around a 100 crore rupees in music royalty instead of giving them to their deserving recipients in the IPRS.
“I know Javed Akhtar Sahab has not been paid, for sure… you know he’s not been paid. Sulaiman and I have not been paid – any royalties that have come from Yash Raj, we have not been paid,” Merchant further elaborated.
