It’s Secret Superstar. It has beaten Dangal’s record by earning Rs. 174.10 crore in its first three days, eclipsing the amount earned by Dangal, which made Rs. 72.68 crore.
Taran Adarsh, a renowned trade analyst, tweeted the figures. “#SecretSuperstar packs a SOLID PUNCH in its opening weekend in China… Close to Rs 175 cr in 3 days… MIND-BOGGLING indeed…Fri $ 6.88 mn Sat $ 10.50 mn Sun $ 9.84 mn Total : $ 27.22 million [Rs 174.10 cr],” he wrote.
Secret Superstar is a coming-of-age film about a teenage singing sensation, with underlying themes of domestic violence and feminism. The film was made on a shoe-string budget, meaning Aamir Khan would be laughing his way to the bank at the moment.
“I think they had put out this ad that they were looking for a girl who was in her early teens and who can sing. So, I was very sure that there’s no chance of me getting selected because I don’t know how to sing and also because I was in the middle of Dangal. So, when I went for the audition, I was just given my lines and I performed. The next day, I met Advait (Chandan), and he narrated the story and that’s how everything happened,” lead actress Zaira Wasim said in an interview with DNA when asked about how she landed the role.
In an interview with Film Companion, she said about her acting process, “I am not that brilliant of an actor who could get into the skin of the character so well which should lead me to getting into the shoes of the characters and imagining things like she would do. It’s very spontaneous, it’s very instant.” She added that her acting was based on her instinct.
It also features Aamir Khan in a comic never-seen-before avatar, and he does full justice to his role again. Considering he is so successful as a producer and an actor, we wonder whether he has any fear about how he is going to cope up with the pressure of delivering a good movie time after time.
“I fear what we have set out to make, can we achieve it fully? The process of filmmaking is so complex, that if you go wrong even in one step, your film won’t be what you set out to make. My constant fear which also keeps me alert—is just that. “What we are trying to achieve have we achieved it? My biggest fear is that. We shouldn’t go wrong there. Will I lose my creativity? For sure I will. Will I lose my fame? Hundred percent I will. There’s no question about it. It’s a matter of time,” Aamir Khan said in an interview with Indian Express.
