Hey, Upper East Siders, it’s Gossip Girl here.
Yep, you may need to sit down for this one – the pop culture phenomenon is making a comeback. According to media reports, the soon to be launched streaming service from the WarnerMedia stable, HBO Max has greenlighted 10 hourlong episodes of the series.
This new series will be written by Quantico creator Joshua Safran and will be based on the book by Cecily von Ziegesar. Deadline reports that the series will take place eight years after the original website closed down and will introduce a new generation of elite, fashionable New York teens.
Of course, a lot has changed since Blair and Serena had lunch on the steps of the MET. For one, we are talking about more diversity and that’s clearly one thing that the original series struggled with.
“When I look back on Gossip Girl, the only things I regret were not as much representation for people of colour and gay storylines,” Executive producer Josh Safran said according to Elle Australia. “Those are the two things I think we probably could have delved into more deeply.”
While we do not know much about the new storyline or the cast, here are a few actors we’d love to see on our screens.
Charles Melton
Lana Condor
Tiffany Haddish
Jameela Jamil
Troye Sivan
