He’s got the looks, the style and personality, a powerful screen presence, and great sartorial sense. Kannada actor Yash, who plays Rocky Bhai in KGF, has won millions of hearts across the country and earned himself a huge fan following. The actor has managed to impress audiences across the country with his acting and personality. Yash sure is a rockstar and he manages to get people to sit up and take notice with his signature style.
To understand his style statement better, we got in touch with his personal stylist Saniya Sardhriya. About Yash’s look in KGF, she tells us, “Costume designers are storytellers too and we have to try and create narrative-driven looks envisioned by the director. For KGF, we were projecting a certain era and that required a lot of research. In Chapter 1, the character of Rocky Bhai was that of a henchman or a street fighter – he had to look messy, unkempt, raw, and masculine. We gave Yash retro-inspired leather jackets, customised bell-bottom denim, and boots. We used fabrics true to the era.”
For KGF: Chapter 2, Sardhriya explains how Rocky Bhai became an iconic character by this time and they had to be even more particular while deciding on looks for Yash. “By this time, Rocky Bhai became big and his look had to spell out ‘Power’. He was supposed to look like the richest man in India. The most important underline was to have a strong core connection between Rocky Bhai from Chapter 1. We recreated retro suits, and played with designs and colour palettes.”
Sardhriya also explains what made them settle for the look we saw in the recently released film. “The current look for Chapter 2 was derived after putting in a lot of permutations and combinations, mood board presentations, look books, and look tests. We kept three things in mind while putting the look together – the era, the aura, and the story-driven narrative.”
She throws light on Yash’s personal style and believes that the actor would be happy to spend his life wearing a black, full sleeve T-shirt with a pair of types of denim. She says, “He would accessorise it with sunglasses and boots. He has a very masculine personality and it reflects strongly in his choice of clothes. His choice is simple and sober. Yash doesn’t like following trends blindly; he rocks every look effortlessly.”
Yash is now working on KGF: Chapter 3. Directed by Prashanth Neel, KGF: Chapter 2 crossed Rs 900 crore at the box office in 12 days. Produced by Hombale Films, the movie was released in five languages after getting postponed multiple times due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
