Raashii Khanna, who was recently seen as Aliyah Choksi in Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, is garnering rave reviews for her acting. Directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, the web series — an adaptation of British TV series Luther— also features Ajay Devgn, Esha Deol, Atul Kulkarni, and Tarun Gahlot.
Raashii Khanna started her career in the entertainment industry as a model and went on to work in commercials, print shoots and was the cover girl of Femina magazine in 2009. She got her first break in Bollywood with Madras Cafe in 2013, alongside John Abraham, and made her entry to Telugu films in 2014 with Oohalu Gusagusalaade. Acting is just one talent, Khanna also has a passion for singing and has lent her voice to songs in movies like Joru, Villain, Balakrishnudu, and Jawaan.
We bet you didn’t know that the Rudra star holds a degree in Literature from Delhi University and she didn’t really set out to become an actress. There’s more to Raashii Khanna and who better to tell us about it than the actress herself.
Let’s get to the questions:
One thing about you that no one else knows?
I’m an early morning person.
What does a day in Raashii Khanna’s life look like?
I start my day at 6:00am with a workout session, followed by breakfast. Around 9:00am, I reach the sets and shoot all day. Post my shoot, I try and hit the gym and then head back home, have dinner, and sleep. I don’t usually have time for anything else.
What’s next in terms of work?
There’s Yodha with Sidharth Malhotra, Pakka Commercial, and Thiruchitrambalam. I am excited for it.
We have heard that you and Vaani Kapoor were roommates before making your respective movie debuts. Are you guys still close?
Yes. In fact, our bond has strengthened even more. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, they say. It’s true. We always find time for each other. When I’m not busy shooting and Vaani has a break from work, we make sure we catch up. So yes, the bond has strengthened. She was a friend before but now she’s family.
Coming from a non-filmy background, how did you decide to become an actress?
I wanted to be an IAS officer; I was also preparing for it. I had no plans to be an actor but destiny had its plan. Once I started working, it truly became my passion. It was a revelation for me too. But now that I’m an actor, I’m really happy. Also, strangely I realised I want to be an actor while I was on set shooting for Madras Cafe. I was nervous but as soon as they said ‘Action,’ I felt like I belonged in front of the camera. I am the happiest when I am acting. There’s nothing else I would want to do.
Three things you don’t leave home without?
My phone, credit card, and lip balm.
Favourite actor?
Meryl Streep
A habit that you would like to change?
I think sometimes I am very impulsive, so that is something I would like to change.
Beauty hacks you swear by?
I usually don’t visit salons. I opt for home remedies like applying multani mitti on my face or sometimes it’s besan with curd and a tinge of lemon in it, and I think it does wonders for my skin.
