In a page from the script leaked by Page Six, there may be clues as to how the lives of characters from Sex and the City have evolved since we last saw them.

In this scene from And Just Like That…, set in inside a restaurant, Carrie Bradshaw sits with her friends, Charlotte York Goldenblatt and Miranda Hobbes. The fourth seat left empty by Samantha Jones is filled by Stanford Blatch.

Carrie first asks the table if they think she was “doing well,’ before the dialogue “I was taping the podcast, I was washing my hair. Yes, I wasn’t eating or sleeping, but at least I felt good about my marriage. Now I’m just one of the wives he was taking care of?”

Most have interpreted this as a sign of the marriage being on shaky feet. Many even suspect infidelity on Big’s end.

The thought serves to be a major shock to fans. Although the on-again, off-again relationship was far from perfect, the two of them deciding to tie the knot really did seem to be something that would last.

There is, of course, a divided opinion on this as many think the relationship is unhealthy, and they are both incompatible. People have gone as far as calling it a straight-up snooze fest and would be happy to see the end.

The script gives no indication of the return of Samantha Jones.

As anticipation for the reboot builds, it is worth consideration that the leak of the script was deliberate. It would not be the first time that the show has used tactics such as this to throw fans off of the main plot points.

While filming the movie Sex and the City 2, Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones, had the idea to put on a wedding dress and run across the street in New York to trick fans into thinking that her character might be getting married in the new movie. “[She] came to me and said, ‘I want to come to the set someday in a wedding gown, and make everybody think Samantha’s getting married,’” Matthew Patrick King, told MTV News. “Forty-five minutes later, I turned around; she was crossing the street in a wedding gown,” he said.

In an interview with TVLine earlier this year, HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys revealed that Samantha’s departure will be explained as her having simply grown apart from the rest of the group. “Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” he explained. “Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So, I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.”

New faces, however, are set to appear, the all-white friendship group at the centre of the original show is set to be updated. In an attempt to make the series more inclusive, three non-white actors will become part of the central cast.
