Aditya Roy Kapur’s rotten luck at the movies appears to have ended with Anurag Basu’s Ludo. In Ludo, we saw the actor we’d fallen in love with in Aashiqui 2 and in Guzaarish. In Fitoor, Aditya Roy Kapur was up against the inimitable Tabu and while he really wasn’t to blame, the movie got people talking more about its OST and Kapur’s tremendous physique instead of the movie.
As Dev Chaudhry in Kalank, Kapur brought a certain calm dignity to his role but again, the film was a massive dud at the box office. Malang was predictable but Kapur’s chemistry with Disha Patani salvaged whatever could be salvaged. And then, Ludo happened, and thank God it did. As Akash Chauhan, Kapur was the perfect mix of boyfriend material and casual fuck buddy. His relationship with Sanya Malhotra is what friends-with-benefits dreams are made up of. Despite fantastic performances by Pankaj Tripathi, Rajkummar Rao, and Abhishek Bachchan, Kapur managed to hold his own.
However, with OM – The Battle Within, Kapur will be taking yet another step into a genre that is dominated by Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff. To be directed by Kapil Verma, Aditya Roy Kapur will be seen in “an action avatar”. He already has the body for it, it remains to be seen if he has the dynamic persona that is required for a high-octane film. We’ve always seen Aditya Roy Kapur perform best when he can be the quiet and raw or funny and charming character. We’re hoping he manages to stand out with OM – The Battle Within.
The shooting schedule for this film will reportedly start next month and the film is set to release next year.
