India is getting its own The Queen’s Gambit. Director Aanand L Rai is all set to direct a biopic on Indian chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand. Rai will also produce the film besides Mahaveer Jain’s Sundial Entertainment. The news was announced on Twitter by trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
“A biopic on chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand has been planned The biopic not titled yet will be directed by Aanand L Rai Produced by Sundial Entertainment [Mahaveer Jain] and Colour Yellow Productions [Aanand L Rai],” he tweeted.

The name of the movie and the cast of the film are yet to be announced. Currently, Rai is shooting Atrangi Re in Delhi. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush.
Viswanathan Anand is a five-time world chess champion and India’s first grandmaster. In 1991-92, he was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna which is India’s highest sporting honour and in 2007, he became India’s first sportsperson to receive the Padma Vibhushan which is India’s second-highest civilian award.
