Reports of a Sridevi biopic being produced by a top studio in Mumbai have been doing the rounds for a while now

Reports of a Sridevi biopic being produced by a top studio in Mumbai have been doing the rounds for a while now. While a host of actresses have reportedly been approached for the role, Vidya Balan is the favourite to play the role.

Now, Filmfare reports that Balan is not only open to the idea but is excited to do so. “I was brought up with a feeling that I was the most important person in my life, and I think that’s what makes all the difference. When I was offered Ishqiya, I felt that there were very few scripts, which had such a juicy role for a woman. When I read it, I absolutely loved it,” she shared on a talk show recently.

“It would require a lot of guts, but as a tribute to Sridevi, I would do it,” she added.

Often referred to as Indian cinema’s “first female superstar”, Sridevi has been the recipient of multiple accolades including the National Film Award, the Nandi Award, the Tamil Nadu State Film Award, the Kerala State Film Award, three Filmfare Awards and three Filmfare Awards South. From dramas to slapstick comedies, the Tamil Nadu native showed a vast range when it came to acting. Her last film was her 300th – the 2017 thriller Mom that had critics going gaga over the actress’ portrayal of a vengeful mother of a rape survivor.

On February 24, 2018, the actress was found dead in her room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, in Dubai after having accidentally drowned. She was cremated with full state honours and even received a gun salute.
