Bollywood actor/comedian Varun Sharma has been roped in as the official host for the IPL, 2021. Known for his wit and relatable humour, Sharma is the first Bollywood celebrity to host the upcoming leg of the most celebrated cricket tournament of the year. The actor will be seen giving live updates on the official streaming platform for IPL 2021, Disney + Hotstar, every day from 7:20 pm onwards.
Sharma was quick to announce this news via his Twitter account.
Sources suggest that Sharma will put his cricket knowledge to work while entertaining the viewers with his humorous comments. One can expect the audience to be enthralled by his quick-witted repartee with true blue cricket fans. As a source told Outlook, “Varun has begun shooting from the Star Sports office from the 19th September. The channel, this time, wants to engage the audience to give them a heightened experiential feel of the match. Since the on-ground IPL experience is curbed in the light of COVID-19, the channel wants to offer an intimate vibe to its viewers. Sharma’s relatability was a big draw for them. His next-door-boy vibe coupled with his interest in the sport made him an ideal candidate for the position.”
The second edition of IPL 2021 kicked off yesterday with a battle of two titans: Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians and MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, UAE. The fan favourite, MI had a rough start to their campaign as CSK defeated the team by a margin of 20 runs. An unbeaten 88 from opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, followed by a disciplined bowling effort helped CSK take the lead. Furthermore, this match has now led the team to occupy the top position at the table as it has managed to win six of out the eight matches that it has participated in.
