The concept of movie trilogies has caught the attention of scores of filmmakers in India lately. On the upside, the wait for a movie’s next part amps up the excitement levels, while also helping balance out the mega budgets that are often associated with such projects. Here are a few trilogies that will be released in the coming years:
Brahmastra
The first installment of this movie, titled Shiva released on September 9, 2022. Now, the second part titled Dev is reportedly in the works for a release in 2023. While crucial details pertaining to the movie remains undisclosed, it appears that protagonist Dev will come alive after he attains the Brahmastra.
Naagin
The character Naagin is an extremely popular one on TV. And well, the iconic character is all set to hit the silver screen with Shraddha Kapoor in the lead. Directed by Vishal Furia, the movie will be released in three parts with VFX-heavy scenes.
Chhatrapati Shivaji
Based on the life of the Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji, this movie sees Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role. Directed by Nagraj Manjule, the movie was supposed to hit the screens in 2021 but the pandemic played a bummer. The first part would throw light on his early life, but the narrative soon progresses to a time when he establishes an empire, with the final installment focussing on his popularity in India.
Shaktimaan
Mukesh Khanna’s Shaktimaan is every ’90s kid’s favorite. And guess what, Sony Pictures India announced the release of this trilogy in February 2022. Khanna has also joined hands with the production house to help them with the execution of the highly-anticipated superhero film. Grapevine is rife that Ranveer Singh will be playing the main protagonist in the film.
Ramayana
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and Ravi Udyawar, this film is yet to get a release date. Up until now, rumors were rife that Mahesh Babu, Deepika Padukone, and Hrithik Roshan will be seen in pivotal roles in this trilogy.
The Immortal Ashwatthama
After working together in Uri: The Surgical Strike filmmaker Aditya Dhar and Vicky Kaushal announced this trilogy. Due to unforeseen constraints imposed by the pandemic, the movie is still under production. Budget issues had also cropped up because of the delays and now the latest reports suggest that the cast might also see a major change. The movie is backed by Jio Studios.
