Kangana Ranaut is at it again. The actor’s Twitter account has been suspended on May 4, after she posted a series of tweets about the recently concluded West Bengal assembly elections.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, a Twitter spokesperson has been quoted, “We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy. We enforce the Twitter Rules judiciously and impartially for everyone on our service.”
The action seems to follow a tweet where Ranaut “urged” PM Narendra Modi to “tame West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee by using his “virat roop from early 2000s”, and demanded President’s Rule in West Bengal.
Ranaut had been warned earlier this year by the social media platform after her tweets on “cutting the heads of the makers” of web series Tandav for hurting religious sentiments triggered netizens. Her sister, Rangoli Chandel’s account was previously suspended because of the same nature of vile tweets. Ranaut had also called out the social media platform for suspending the account of former US president Donald Trump, whose account was suspended due to several violations of Twitter’s policies, despite repeated warnings.
Ranaut’s Instagram account, however, is active, and she has recently posted a video, in tears, talking about “disturbing news, photos, and videos of murders, gang rapes, and houses burning” from West Bengal, and how no liberal is doing anything about it. Titled “Distressed, beyond words, death of democracy”, she says she is “disappointed” that the government she supports is not doing more than dharnas to combat the clashes.
Ranaut has responded to the ban, screenshotted a quote given to ANI and shared it on her Instagram saying “My Twitter account was suspended right after I posted a video on Twitter demanding president rule to stop genocide in Bengal”, adding “this is the secular India they want to sell you, where Hindus and their voices are getting butchered”.
