Seriously, Tom Holland seems to have won a life-jackpot. After playing Spider-Man, pairing up with Zendaya, and becoming Hollywood’s favorite softboy, he’s going to be hitting screens as Playstation legend Nathan Drake for the upcoming Uncharted film. Damn he’s good!

Street-smart thief Nathan is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. In the process, both master and apprentice cross paths with the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas) as well as Chloe Frazer (Sophia Ali) from the games.

Here’s a quick look at this week’s new teaser clip:

The new teaser scene clocks in at a juicy two-and-a-half minutes, giving us a taste of the action set-piece magic that made the video games that extra bit more special. While game-Nathan has dangled from the edge of cliffs, fought off attack helicopters, and escaped crumbling ruins – he’s also found himself scrambling for life at the tail-end of an airborne cargo plane, making this scene a direct reimagination of the ‘Stowaway’ chapter of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

Back in 2011, Deception told us a story of Drake and Sully as proper veteran treasure hunters, seeking the ‘Lost City of Ubar’ across the Arabian subcontinent. Tom Holland will be playing a much younger version of Nate, telling the story of how he crossed paths with Sully, and giving us an early glimpse of his prodigious, spider-like ability to avoid danger and scale walls – as well as airborne cargo.

After a couple minutes of scuffling and fighting, Nate gets knocked off the plane by a blood red 1957 Mercedes-Benz SL300. After No Way Home’s sensational box-office boom, Holland probably knows what it’s like to get knocked off his feet by a couple million dollars, and does it pretty convincingly.

It all comes at a cost, though. In a late-2021 interview with GQ, the actor shared just how difficult and demanding Uncharted was to film – revealing that he suffered from severe pain and stress due to the shoot’s physical demands.

“I never realized how lucky I am that Spider-Man wears a mask, because when he’s bouncing around and flying from buildings, that’s all CG,” he said. “In Uncharted it’s just me in a henley and cargo pants. That film absolutely broke me.”

That said, the hard work has paid off. The teaser gives off a very game-authentic feel – possibly implying that we’ll be seeing fun real-life recreations of other key Uncharted moments too. In the game, Nate ends up holding on to a parachute-cargo drop mid-fall – perhaps we’ll see Holland’s character save his skin in the same way?

Either way, we’re super-stoked. It’s a great time to be an Uncharted fan, especially with the Legacy of Thieves collection going live for PS5 on January 28th, 2022. The film, on the other hand, is slated for a February 18th release.
