90s kids grew up watching some of the best cartoons which included everyone’s favourite superhero siblings – The Powerpuff Girls. Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup were regular school girls who also fought crime and saved the world before bedtime. The show marked its debut on the small screen in 1998 and 24 years later a reboot is now in the making.
Craig McCracken, Emmy-winning creator of the animated series, has joined hands with Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe to bring new interpretations of the classic series back to the small screen. The reboot will revisit some old crime-fighting days and expand the world of the original series. Expect a ton of villains including some familiar enemies and new menaces in the series.
McCracken is serving as creator, producer and director on the show. Sarah Fell, VP, Original Kids and Family Animation, Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, will oversee the developments. The team is also working on the reboot of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. “The Hanna-Barbera homecoming of Craig was an opportunity we could not pass up,” said Sam Register, President of Cartoon Network Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.
“Along with his unparalleled sense of fun and imagination, he’s bringing two of his greatest works in The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and we are so excited for these characters to be a part of the new legacy taking shape at the studio,” the team added.
Fans of the original cartoon were thrilled to hear the news as nostalgia filled Twitter with excited tweets. Many took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the new series. A few fan theories about the characters were also discussed online. Others requested other showrunners to bring back their favourite shows while some were not very happy about the idea of another reboot.
