SPOILER ALERT: The Death Tally of Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Finale is the Show’s Highest Yet

The season finale of GOT S06 was the deadliest yet, becoming the episode with the maximum number of character adieus. Here’s remembering those who died and got cooked.

The season finale of GOT S06, The Winds of Winter, was the deadliest yet, beating the Red Wedding to become the episode with the maximum number of character adieus. Here’s remembering those who died and got cooked.

The High Sparrow

Burn, you wicked man, burn. The scheming High Sparrow made the silly error to understimate Cersei and refused to pay attention to Margaery’s warnings. He does not allow anyone to leave the Sept of Baelor and then, just before turning into ash in the wildfire explosion, you see a flicker of horrified realisation. We just wish he roasted slower and longer.

Margaery Tyrell

Although Margaery she was quick enough to realise what Cersei was up to, she still couldn’t escape the wildfire explosion. And we are heartbroken. Good bye Natalie Dormer.

Loras Tyrell

Loras confesses before the High Sparrow, gets the Seven’s emblem dug into his forehead with a knife, but still tragically dies.

Lancel Lannister

Qyburn makes one of his child informants lead Lancel Lannister under the Sept where he is stabbed and then killed by the kegs of wildfire. He slowly watched the candles burn out…

Mace Tyrell

Mace Tyrell, who was at the Sept of Baelor to attend the trial of Loras, dies with them.

Kevan Lannister

Kevan, Cersei’s uncle, who supported Tommen, was also killed in the explosion. No, we never cared much about him.

Maester Pycelle

The slimy Maester Pycelle finally dies at the hands of Maester Qyburn. Qyburn lets the “little birds” loose on Pycelle, allowing them to gang-stab him to death. While we loved watching Pycelle die, imagine what those children will grow up into.

Tommen Baratheon

Shot most matter-of-factly (and hence, more shocking), Tommen realises that his mother has killed his wife and numerous others and so, he removes his crown and jumps off the window of the Red Keep.

Walder Frey and his sons

A Girl Finally Has No Face. After serving his sons as a meat pie (“Black Walder was difficult to carve”), Arya Stark removes her disguise and introduces herself to Walder Frey, before slitting his throat. She holds him till he breathes his last, and smiles satisfyingly. Not just Jon Snow – Arya Stark also avenged the Red Wedding.

Here’s looking forward to Season 7 with a King in the North, a Queen in the South and the Mother of Dragons.
