Snapchat Confirms New Crying Filter Not Inspired From Amber Heard
Is The New Hilarious Snapchat Filter Inspired By A Crying Amber Heard? The Company Weighs In

Snapchat users were convinced that the new feature was inspired by Amber Heard’s tearful testimony

The Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp case has the world hooked on to it. Every day a new piece of information comes out and people sit down to analyse it. Amidst the deposition, many people were convinced that Snapchat took inspiration from the case to introduce its new filter feature.

A week ago, the social media platform introduced a filter which turned a person’s face into a frowning one. The results of applying this filter looked quite similar to what Heard looked like when she was giving her tearful deposition in the court last week. Twitter users flooded the platforms with posts about the same.

Snapchat was quick to react to these rumours, suggesting that Heard was never the inspiration behind the new feature. A spokesperson told TMZ, “There’s simply no truth whatsoever, that the lens is inspired by Amber Heard and if you think about this logistically, it just doesn’t add up.”

The spokesperson added that the filter “has been in the works for 6 months … so it was being developed well before Amber ever offered her tearful testimony. More importantly, Snapchat tells us they’d never play coy with a DV case.”

Earlier, Twitter users also claimed that Amber Heard’s testimony against Depp was copied word-for-word from the 1999 film The Talented Mr Ripley. Users pointed out that Amber Heard’s testimony had the exact same lines but she just substituted ‘Dickie’ with ‘Johnny’. While the claims quickly started spreading on the social media site, fact-checking websites like Snopes and Newsweek soon debunked the rumours claiming that “those phrases were not spoken during testimony”

Buzz is that Heard’s role in Aquaman has been reduced to a 10-minute appearance. A source revealed, “I hear Amber Heard has less than 10 min of screentime in Aquaman 2.” An official statement regarding the same is yet to be issued. The film is slated for release on March 17th, 2023.
