The highly awaited film, Gold is all set to hit the screens tomorrow. The Akshay Kumar starrer is based on India’s performance at the 1948 Summer Olympics, the first after the country’s freedom from the British Empire.

“It’s a fictional take on what happened. Also, it is not just the golden victory in 1948 we will be looking at, but it will encompass 12 crucial years in India’s history,” director Reema Kagti told the Deccan Chronicle. While Gold boasts a star cast of Akshay Kumar, Amit Sadh, Mouni Roy and Kunal Kapoor, it’s the supporting cast that has caught our eye.

According to a report in Bollywood Life, the actors have been trained by multiple coaches including Arjuna Award winner and former Indian national hockey team captain, Sandeep Singh. “Sandeep Singh trained the actors for a few months before they flew off for the international schedule. The Arjuna awardee who took over as captain of the Indian national team in January 2009, was roped in to ensure that the actors looked like authentic hockey players on the field. In Bradford, the team is also holding auditions at the city centre for local actors to portray international hockey players of the rival team. An international coach has been hired to train them there,” a source told Mumbai Mirror.
