What started out as a reiteration by actress Tanushree Dutta about a case of alleged sexual assault by Nana Patekar 10 years ago, has snowballed into India’s #MeToo movement. Over the past week, women have taken to social media and outed their sexual predators and creeps.
Actor Rajat Kapoor who was accused by multiple women of inappropriate conduct issued an apology while the founders of Phantom Films dissolved the production house following reports of assault against director Vikas Bahl. Amidst the #MeToo wave, an old video interview of Salman Khan has resurfaced on Twitter.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had come out years ago and stated that Khan had physically assaulted her and also harassed her numerous times. When the NDTV journalist in the video asks Khan if he had ever hit a woman (presumably hinting at Bachchan’s allegations), Khan replies: “Yeah, now that woman has said that I have. I mean there was a journalist Prabhu Chawla who asked me this long time ago, so I just banged the table and he got startled, the table really broke. I mean, if I hit somebody, it’s obviously a fight, I am going to be angry. I am going to whack and give it my best shot. I don’t think she would’ve survived it.”
