The Real Reason Why Shahid Kapoor's 'Jersey' Release Was Postponed
Not The Clash With ‘KGF 2’ Or ‘Beast,’ Here’s Why Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey Release Was Postponed

Initially scheduled to release on April 14th, Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’ will now hit theatres on April 22

Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey, which is the official Hindi adaptation of Nani’s Telugu film of the same title, is a movie we’ve all be looking forward to. However, there have been many delays when it comes to the sports movie’s release. Initially scheduled to come out in early 2022, the film’s date got shifted to April 14 due to Covid-19. However, that too got pushed forward and Jersey will now be arriving in theatres on April 22nd.

Reports suggested that the filmmakers took the decision to avoid a clash with Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2 and Thalapathy Vijay’s Beast, which are releasing around the same time. However, the makers have cleared the air and revealed that the clash is not the reason why the film’s release has been postponed by a week.

The producer of the film, Aman Gill, issued a statement revealing the real reason behind the delay. He stated that the film had landed in legal trouble after writer Rajneesh Jaiswal reasoned that Jersey had been plagiarised from his script titled “The Wall.”

“We were all geared up to release our film Jersey this holiday weekend, however, we didn’t want to go ahead and plan a release until the courts gave us a favourable order, and with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday, we had no time to plan for the Thursday release hence we decided to postpone the release by a week to 22nd April till we got such an order,” he stated.

The Bombay High Court ruled its decision in favour of the film-makers. “We got a favourable order, which clears the way for our release next week 22nd April,” Gill added.

Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey also stars Mrunal Thakur, and Pankaj Kapoor in key roles. Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, it is about a cricket enthusiast whose dreams of pursuing a career in cricket are fulfilled in his 40s thanks to his son. He tries to earn his child’s respect and not be considered a failure by him like everyone else. Shahid had wrapped up the shoot of the film in December 2020. Jersey is produced by Allu Entertainment, Dil Raju Production, Sithara Entertainments, and Brat Films.
