‘Jersey’ Starring Shahid Kapoor Postponed Due To Clash With ‘KGF 2’ And ‘Beast’

Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur’s ‘Jersey’ will now hit theatres on April 22nd, instead of April 14

The Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey, which was set for a April 14th release, has been postponed by a week. The filmmakers have taken to decision due to the fact that Jersey would have clashed with KGF: Chapter 2 and Thalapathy Vijay’s Beast.

The news was released by trade analyst Taran Adarsh who took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “#Xclusiv… BREAKING NEWS… #Jersey POSTPONED by one week… Will arrive in *cinemas* on 22 April 2022… The stakeholders arrived at the decision late last night.”

A statement from the film’s producer Aman Gill reads, “As a team, we have put our blood sweat, and tears into Jersey and would like our beloved film to reach all of you in the widest possible way. Jersey will now release on 22nd April.”

In an interview with CNN News 18, Shahid Kapoor was asked about his film’s box office clash with KGF Chapter 2 and Beast. To which, he said, “The fact that we’re releasing means that we feel it’s a good time to release. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have. The fact that they are releasing, feels like a good time for them. So, I guess, if you put the two things together, there is enough space for different movies.”

Shahid further confessed that he is a big fan of Vijay. “He’s a great dancer and I have a soft spot for good dancing. I’m sure Beast is going to be a fantastic film but that is slightly for a different market. I don’t think there’s that much overlapping happening there,” added Shahid.

The actor also extended good wishes to Yash ahead of his KGF Chapter 2‘s release. “KGF 2 is a sequel to a film that people have really loved. So, wishing Rocky Bhai all the best. It’s a different genre, a big action, edgy kind of film, and ours is an emotional sports film with family and a message,” the actor mentioned.

Jersey is based on a talented but failed cricketer who decides to return to the field in his late 30s and fulfill his son’s wish for a jersey as a gift.

Gowtam Tinnanuri, who directed original Jersey, has helmed the Hindi version as well. The film also features Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur. Presented by Allu Arvind and backed by Aman Gill, Dil Raju, and S Naga Vamsi, Jersey is set to be released on April 14.
