Shahid Kapoor is having a very busy year. The actor wrapped up the shoot for Jersey a few months back, and instantly shifted his focus to shooting for Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s web show. The actor will be wrapping up the web series soon as well, and if reports are to be believed, he will begin working on Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s film next. According to reports in Pinkvilla, the actor has given a nod to Mehra’s film on Mahabharat’s Karna, and will start shooting for it in 2022.

A source close to the development told the online portal, “Shahid has liked the script and is looking forward to playing Karna on screen. It will be a mythological drama, and will roll in early 2022. For now, the makers are planning for a 2023 release. Rakeysh, Ronnie and Shahid have envisioned shooting the film on a large scale, and a lot of prep will go in before they start shooting for the film next year. Besides the other prep, Shahid will also undergo a physical transformation to look the part.”
Interestingly, Mehra’s film is not the only film on Mahabharat’s Karna that is in the pipeline. In February this year, actor-turned-producer Jackky Bhagnani too had announced a film on Karna. “Growing up, I have always been intrigued by an unsung warrior from the Mahabharata – #Karna. His journey highlighted how one should continue to believe in spirituality, generosity, humility, dignity, self-respect, and being respectful towards his loved ones at any given situation in life. Extremely grateful, excited and proud to present to you, my dream project #SuryaputraMahavirKarna,” he had shared on social media.
Apart from this, Shahid Kapoor is gearing for the release of Jersey, which is the official remake of the Telugu film with the same name. Kapoor will be seen essaying the role of a cricketer in the movie. Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur are also a part of this film. Jersey is all set to hit the theatres on November 5, 2021.
