Well, Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju seems to have created history by smashing the record previously held by Baahubali 2.
Popular trade analyst, Taran Adarsh tweeted that while Baahubali 2 had collected ₹46.50 crores on the third day of its release (a Sunday), Sanju surpassed that number and collected ₹46.71 crores on its third day. As predicted, the Ranbir Kapoor starrer has set the Box Office on fire and cemented Kapoor’s status as a bankable actor, one he was in the danger of losing had Sanju failed to make a mark.
The highly awaited Sanjay Dutt biopic had gotten off to a great start. Beating Race 3 and Padmaavat, the film delivered the biggest opening of 2018 with a collection of ₹34.75 crores on Friday.
Ranbir Kapoor had a dream debut with Saawariya but the film proved to be a dud at the Box Office. His performances improved with hits like Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Barfi! and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani but things started going downhill from 2014 onwards. His breakups with Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif didn’t help matters with rumours of infidelity doing the rounds. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was a ray of hope but Jagga Jasoos undid all the good work.
Keeping all this in mind, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Ranbir had a lot riding on Sanju and
needed this film to succeed if he was to maintain his position among Bollywood’s A-listers.
“Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor are the biggest beneficiaries from Sanju … Hirani has consolidated and cemented his status with yet another smash hit … Ranbir needed a hit, the massive BO numbers to bring him back and yes, he’s back with a vengeance,” tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Suffice to say that we’ll see Ranbir Kapoor around for quite some time now that Sanju is well on its way to becoming one of the biggest hits in the history of Hindi cinema.
