British actor, writer, director Ricky Gervais has confirmed what fans of his show feared the most — the end of the beloved show — After Life will end after its third season.
Gervais spoke to The Sun, and said that he is not interested isn’t taking the dark comedy beyond season three. “I’ve already made my mind up – there just won’t be a fourth,” Gervais said.
“You never say never but you put those things out there to make you remember because it’s tempting, it’s very tempting.”
He went on to explain how being a writer is similar to being a conductor leading an orchestra who doesn’t face the audience. Gervais said, “The audience think they want another one but they don’t know, they’re not sure, so you’ve got to be careful.”
Gervais writes, directs and stars in the Netflix dark comedy After Life as Tony, a widower struggling with depression and suicide after his loving wife, Lisa, dies of breast cancer. What follows is an enthralling and relatable story of life, its simplicity, and people who make it a bit more special and worth living. After Life enjoyed a successful second season release in April 2020, and the third season is expected to release mid-2021.
