The beloved Rick and Morty series might soon come to an end, due to a controversial, and mortifying video of co-creator Dan Harmon resurfacing.
While the show is currently extremely popular, fans were outraged and demanded for the show to be cancelled after an old, parody video from 2009 sparked a discussion. The video shows Harmon, who plays the role of serial killer Dexter, stimulating the rape of a baby doll.
Harmon opens the video saying: “Hi I’m Dan Harmon. You’re about to watch my controversial new pilot, Daryl.”
“Now I have to warn you, I originally made it with Showtime for their audience because it’s a little groundbreaking for normal people to handle.
“But maybe you’ll surprise me. Good luck.”
The video had originally resurfaced 2018, which caused an online outrage. Harmon apologised for it, saying in a statement: “In 2009, I made a ‘pilot’ which strove to parody the series ‘Dexter’ and only succeeded in offending.
“I quickly realised the content was way too distasteful and took the video down immediately.
“Nobody should ever have to see what you saw and for that, I sincerely apologise.”
But the fans have once again urged Adult Swim to cancel the show. One tweeted: “Cancel Rick and Morty! BAN THIS SHOW! FIRE THE CREATORS!”
“I watched that video. Who wants to burn my Rick and Morty shirt with me?” another posted.
Adult Swim still hasn’t made a decision regarding the matter, but fans are extremely unhappy and the viewership of the show is definitely at risk.
