Dia Mirza has always been very vocal about the issues that bother her. Be it talking about the environment or replying to trolls, the actress has made sure that she speaks her heart out. Recently, the actress opened up about sexism in the film industry, and stated that her debut film, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, had sexism in it.

Talking to Brut India, Mirza revealed, “People were writing, thinking and making sexist cinema, and I was a part of these stories. Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein has sexism in it.” She went on to talk about how previously there weren’t too many women crew members, and how a makeup artist had to be a man whereas a hairdresser was generally considered a woman’s job. 

“When I started working in films, there were at best only 4 or 5 women on any given film crew with a unit strength of over 120, sometimes 180 people. There would just never be any female representation on a film crew, so the gender ratio was skewed. Nobody really cared about it.

We live in a patriarchal society, and it is an industry that is largely led by men. So there is rampant sexism. And I think for a large part, it is not even conscious sexism because there are so many men who are writers, who are directors, who are actors, who are not even aware of their sexist thinking,” added the RHTDM actress. 

She went on to talk about how things have changed over the years, but she had to learn how to survive in this industry all by herself. She added that since she had no mentor and no one who could guide her or help me understand “how to go about consolidating my choices or even making the right choices,” she adapted to follow her instinct and her managers.

Dia Mirza was earlier headlining the news when she had announced her wedding with Vaibhav Rekhi. Days after her wedding, Mirza also revealed that she is pregnant.
