Rebel Wilson Reacts To Newspaper Threatening To Out Her
‘You’ve Got Two Days’: Newspaper Blackmailed Rebel Wilson To Reveal Her Identity

Wilson has handled the situation with grace

“I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess #loveislove,” wrote Rebel Wilson as she declared her love for her partner and fashion designer, Ramona Agruma. Her fans celebrated the news, but to our surprise, it was not Pride Month zest but a threat that made Wilson out her queer identity.

Soon after Wilson came out and revealed that she was dating Agruma, The Sydney Morning Herald revealed that they had given the actor two days to comment on her love life. In an op-ed piece, the newspaper revealed that they were planning to reveal the actor’s new romance and gave her a two-day deadline to comment on her secret relationship. “To say that the Herald ‘outed’ Wilson is wrong,” they shared later.

The Sydney Morning Herald’s editor, Bevan Shields, added, “Our weekly Private Sydney celebrity column asked Wilson if she wished to comment about her new partner. We would have asked the same questions had Wilson’s new partner been a man.” He went on to say, “Like other mastheads do every day, we simply asked the questions and as standard practice included a deadline for a response.”

As outrage built on social media, columnist Andrew Hornery also wrote in an article, saying, “Big mistake. Wilson opted to gazump the story, posting about her new Disney Princess’ on Instagram early Friday morning,” establishing that there was no kind of pressure from their side.

When fans posted angry posts expressing their disregard towards the newspaper, Rebel Wilson responded to one of the tweets and said, “Thanks for your comments, it was a very hard situation but trying to handle it with grace.”

Interestingly, this is not the first time the actress has become a target of the Australian media. In 2017, a series of articles were published about her claiming that she had lied about her name, age and childhood to get a boost in Hollywood .
