Many South films often find their way into Bollywood. In the past, Hindi adaptations of South films like Kabir Singh have proved to be very successful at the box office. Ranveer Singh is now joining this bandwagon as well, as he has joined hands with director Shankar to work on the Bollywood remake of superstar Vikram’s film Anniyan. The film will be backed by producer Dr Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios.

Vikram’s Anniyan was a cult classic, and it is being said that the adaptation will also be mounted on a gigantic cinematic canvas. The makers promise to give the audience one of the most anticipated pan-Indian cinematic experience with their film. The Singh starrer is scheduled to go on the floors next year and will be co-produced by God Bless Entertainment.

The film was announced on Wednesday on the occasion of Baisakhi in North India and Puthandu in Tamil Nadu. Singh shared a photo of himself along with his director and producer and captioned the image as, “Proudly announcing my collaboration with the pioneering visionary of Indian cinema, the maverick master craftsman SHANKAR @shanmughamshankar powered by veteran film producer Dr. Jayantilal Gada .”

The Gully Boy actor also issued a statement, further talking about his association with the film. “To lead a film like Anniyan is a dream come true for any artist. Vikram Sir, one of our country’s finest talents, an artist who I hugely admire, gave a colossal performance in the original, one that can never be matched. I can only hope that my interpretation and rendition of the part also connects with audiences in the same way,” read the statement.

He added, “It’s undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime performance piece, and I am ready to give this role every single ounce of my being. Shankar Sir is a genius filmmaker and a true visionary. Words don’t do justice to just how excited I am at the prospect of being directed by him.”

The 2005-released Tamil-psychological film Anniyan revolved around the life of a man who suffered from multiple personality disorder. He is frustrated with the social indifference and public negligence around him and develops two other identities for himself. One is a fashion model named Remo, and the other is a vigilante named Anniyan.
