It was back in 2019 when Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced his most passionate project titled Baiju Bawra. Ever since then discussions about who the lead actor would be have been taking rounds. While initially, rumours suggested that Ranbir Kapoor would essay the lead role in the film, new reports suggest that Ranveer Singh is now being considered for the role.
A source told ETimes, “It is Ranveer Singh who has been finalised. An official announcement is in the offing, but yes, a few modalities yet remain to be worked out. Probably post all that, Bhansali will declare. But as things stand today, it is Ranveer.” If these reports happen to be true, Baiju Bawra will mark Bhansali and Singh’s fourth collaboration together after Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat.
Earlier it was being said that Kartik Aaryan has been approached for the film. A source stated that Kapoor already has another similar Dharma project in his kitty so he is confused whether he should do SLB’s film or not. The actor has expressed his concerns to Bhansali and his team as well.
A source close to the development revealed, “Ranbir has expressed his confusion to Bhansali and the team as well. He is not sure of Baiju Bawra and with another Dharma project in his kitty; RK doesn’t seem to be keen anymore on working with SLB again.
Not many know that Ranbir Kapoor did not have a great experience working with him during Saawariya and they have never done a film after that. So it’s most likely that Ranbir is going to opt-out of the project, although nothing was ever locked on papers.”

The film is supposed to star Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Ajay Devgn in key roles. The film was announced after SLB’s Inshallah, which was supposed to star Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan together for the first time, was shelved. Bhansali Productions had tweeted the news and called the musical saga the filmmaker’s ambitious project. The tweet read, “On this auspicious day, we are delighted to make your Diwali happier by announcing our next endeavour (sic).”
