Rajinikanth’s health has been deteriorating for the past few months now. The actor, who was shooting for his next film – Siruthai Siva’s Annaatthe, was even admitted to the hospital for treatment a couple of months ago. Rajinikanth has now flown to the US for a regular checkup along with his wife.

Reports suggest that Rajinikanth flew to the US on June 18th. The actor and his wife Latha Rajinikanth were spotted at the Chennai International Airport, and the couple is said to now stay there for a couple of weeks. The actor will go under some routine checkups and tests.

Dhanush, Rajinikanth’s son-in-law, is also in the US. He is shooting for his upcoming Hollywood film, and will be taking care of Rajinikanth. Dhanush’s wife and son are also in the US. The superstar had earlier requested the central government to grant him permission to travel abroad during the restrictions imposed because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Rajini reportedly travelled on a special flight along with his family members who are vaccinated.

 

To honour his work, Rajinikanth was recently honoured with the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar took to Twitter to share the news with everyone and congratulated him for receiving the esteemed title. The Award is the country’s highest film honour.

“Happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema Rajinikanth ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic,” Mr Javadekar had tweeted while sharing the news. The jury for the award included singers Asha Bhosle and Shankar Mahadevan, actors Mohanlal and Biswajeet, and filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

PM Narendra Modi had also taken to Twitter to pass on good wishes to the megastar for the honour. “Popular across generations, a body of work few can boast of, diverse roles and an endearing personality…that’s Shri @rajinikanth Ji for you. It is a matter of immense joy that Thalaiva has been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him,” he had tweeted.
