Swara Bhasker has said that her filmography is mostly made up of roles that were rejected by other actors. She has performed a variety of roles in her career ever since her debut in the 2009 film Madholal: Keep Walking. The 33-year-old actor reveals that even the most successful roles of her career came to her because others did not want to do it. Movies like Raanjhanaa, which starred Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which starred Salman Khan, did not come to Swara Bhasker first.
Let’s take a look at other films that Swara Bhaskar took on:
Raanjhanaa
The movie, directed by Aanand L Rai, was set in Varanasi and featured Swara Bhaskar as Bindiya. The character of Bindiya was in love with Kundan (Dhanush), her childhood friend. Bindiya was portrayed as a very religious girl who has a lot of faith. She was shown as someone who observed various fasts, worshipped cows, and idols in order to win over her love, Kundan. In an interview, Bhaskar said, “In Raanjhaana, I was the last person to be cast because they had a sudden last-minute cancellation.”
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
The actor said, “Even my big-budget roles were ones that nobody did. In Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, no actress wanted to play Salman’s sister, so they reached out to me.”
Anaarkali of Aarah
Swara waited for a long time for this film and her performance was worth the wait. Anarkali (Swara) is a dancer who gets assualted during a show by Dharmender, a politician. When the law refuses to bring her justice, she decides to get it herself. She said, “For Anaarkali of Aarah, the director literally came back to me after two and a half years after going to everybody else.”
Swara also revealed that she had to convince Rhea Kapoor for a role in Veere Di Wedding. She also said that in Nil Battey Sannata, her friends told her that the film would be career suicide, but it turned out to be the best decision she’s made.
Swara was last seen in the web series Aapkey Kamrey Mein Koi Rahta Hai, and Sheer Qorma.
