According to media reports, the owners of acting legends Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor’s ancestral homes in Pakistan have refused to sell the houses at the rate fixed by the government there. India Today reports that Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has been urged to reach a settlement with the owners of the houses of Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor so that the properties may be turned into museums. However, the rate fixed by the government is far less than what the owners are demanding for the properties.

The owner of Dilip Kumar’s house is reportedly demanding Rs 25 crores for the property while the owner of Raj Kapoor’s ancestral home is demanding a whopping price of Rs 200 crores. This is not even in the same bar as the rate fixed by Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government – the government has fixed the price of Dilip Kumar’s 101 square metre house at Rs 80.56 lakh and has fixed the price of Raj Kapoor’s 151.75 square metre house at Rs 1.50 crores.

The archaeology department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plans to turn the ancestral homes into museums but the owners of the houses believe that the offer made to them is low compared to the value of the prime location in which the houses are situated. The owner of Dilip Kumar’s home, Haji Lal Muhammad claims that he had purchased the property in 2005 for Rs 51 lakh.

Actor Dilip Kumar is often referred to as “The First Khan” in Bollywood cinema and is credited with being the first to bring method acting into Indian cinema. He is one of the last surviving actors from Bollywood’s Golden Era.

Raj Kapoor is widely regarded as the jewel in the crown of Hindi cinema. His films like Awaara and Boot Polish are required viewing for anyone hoping to perfect their craft in cinema.
