This year, we’ll witness many first-time nominees who’ll be awaiting the big day with bated breath and hope. They may or may not win it, but just being nominated for an Oscar is a huge honour. So without further ado, let’s take a look at some new names who’ll be fighting it out at the biggest night in cinema.
Timothée Chalamet of Call Me by Your Name
“It’s a love story. The sexual bits in the movie, like the scene with a peach or the scene between us, they’re not the stars of the film,” Chalamet said about the film in an interview with IndieWire.
Nominated for: Best Actor In A Leading Role
Daniel Kaluuya of Get Out
When asked about whether he had an acceptance speech ready, Daniel was quoted as saying by Daily Star, “I haven’t thought that far ahead. I don’t know what I’ll be like if I win. I don’t know what I’ll say. That’s how I feel about it at the moment.”
Nominated for: Best Actor In A Leading Role
Sam Rockwell of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Speaking about his character Jason Dixon in the movie, Rockwell told NYTimes, “The reason a person lashes out the way Dixon does is because he hates himself, so anybody can relate to that. I’m drawn to complex characters; they’re all filled with so many different feelings, and that’s what makes them interesting.”
Nominated for: Best Actor In A Supporting Role
Margot Robbie of I, Tonya
“It’s definitely dark. Allison Janney puts it well. She’s like, “It’s like laughing in church when you know that you shouldn’t, and then you’re thinking, ‘What kind of person am I to find this funny?’” It does have those moments in it,” Margot tells Deadline.com about the film.
Nominated for: Best Actress In A Leading Role
Lesley Manville of Phantom Thread
“It was a very, very fulfilling gig in every way. I was using all my creative genes. We were really working together as a team to make this come to life, which was wonderful,” Manville told Independent.co.uk in an interview.
