This year’s Oscars has one of the best line-ups when it comes to the Best Original Song. We’ll admit that we are completely at loss when it comes to making predictions, but this writer has a favourite – it’s ‘This Is Me’ from The Greatest Showman. It fills you up with so much confidence, it’s addictive. That said, the other songs are just as soul-stirring. Take a look.
This Is Me from The Greatest Showman
Music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul
Favourite lines:
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Don’t be surprised if they win it, because they are the duo who wrote and composed La La Land’s ‘City Of Stars.’
Stand Up For Something from Marshall
Sung by Andra Day feat. Common; Music by Diane Warren; Lyrics by Diane Warren and Lonnie R. Lynn
Favourite lines:
You can have all the money in your hands
All the possessions anyone can ever have
But it’s all worthless treasure, true worth is only measured
Not by what you got, but what you got in your heart
Mighty River from Mudbound
Music and lyrics by Mary J. Blige, Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinson
Favourite lines:
White flag in hand
I don’t want to fight
No lines in the sand, I’m on your side
Invisible, no color life
It’s time we put our, put our, put our differences aside
Remember Me From Coco
Music and Lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez
Favourite lines:
I sing a secret song to you
Each night we are apart
Remember me
Mystery Of Love from Call Me By Your Name
Favourite lines:
Oh, to see without my eyes
The first time that you kissed me
Boundless by the time I cried
I built your walls around me
