Christopher Nolan is back again with yet another epic. The Interstellar and The Dark Knight director has dropped the trailer of his latest film, “Oppenheimer” starring Cillian Murphy in the lead. In case you weren’t aware, the movie will focus on the work of J. Robert Oppenheimer, who’s considered to be the “father of the atomic bomb.”
Here’s what the official synopsis reads like – “Physicist J Robert Oppenheimer works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, leading to the development of the atomic bomb.” Apart from Murphy, who’s been a staple in many Nolan films such as Batman Begins, Dunkirk, Inception, and more, the movie will also star Robert Downey Jr in the lead.
As per reports, the movie is based on a biographical novel titled, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin, which won a Pulitzer Prize back in 2006. Oppenheimer will focus on the era between 1942 to 1946, documenting the scientist’s life and the ethics behind the creation of the atomic bomb.
Joining Murhpy and RDJ in the lead will be a string of A-list stars, including Emily Blunt as Kitty Oppenheimer, Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, Matt Damon as Leslie Groves Jr., and Gary Oldman as Harry S. Truman. Along with them, joining the cast will be Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Benny Safdie, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, Josh Peck, Jason Clarke, David Dastmalchian, Alex Wolff, James D’Arcy and more.
Oppenheimer will also be the first Nolan film will be done outside WB’s banner, after the director ended the association post the release of Dunkirk. The movie is set to release on July 21, 2023. Ironically, this is the same day Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is set to hit the screens.
