Oh My God! is happening again, and Akshay Kumar is apparently reprising his role as god in the movie.

The shoot for the sequel to the hit 2012 social comedy will commence sometime in August with lead actors Yami Gautam and Pankaj Tripathi. Kumar, who will start shooting later, is allegedly scheduled to wrap up by September.

Kumar is currently said to be busy shooting Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan.

Kumar generally works on a film for somewhere between 30 to 354 days, but for a film like Oh My God 2, where his role, albeit pivotal, is limited, he will only shoot for 15 to 20 days. The film is apparently scheduled to be on the floors for about two months, wrapping up in October, if all goes as planned.

A source close to the development to state was quoted in a report saying that the Khiladi lead was “eager to play the God again”, and that he will play a crucial role right in the middle of a conflict in the film.

“Yami Gautam will play the female lead in Oh My God 2, and she has a very crucial role in the story. While the last part was all about the fight of a man with God, this time around, the makers have come up with a unique storyline that has three key roles to be played by Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam, and Akshay Kumar respectively. All details, however, have been kept under wraps,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.

According to the source, pre-production has already begun in full swing.

“If they wanted to make OMG 2 just because it’s a brand, there would have been 5 OMGs by now. But the team was clear to take things very seriously and hence, have decided on making OMG only when they were all satisfied with the story. It will be released exactly a decade after the first part,” the source shared.

Paresh Rawal will not be returning for this sequel. Taking his place is Pankaj Tripathi who will be in the middle of a fresh storyline. To add to the changes made from the previous project, Amit Rai would now be heading the sequel as director, instead of Umesh Shukla, as was speculated by some reports earlier in June.

Ashwin Varde, along with Kumar himself, would be producing the enterprise.
