Called ‘Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy,’ the documentary will feature never-seen-before footage from 20 years ago.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be inside Kanye’s head, here is your chance. Netflix has dropped a teaser trailer for its upcoming Kanye West documentary called “Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy.” The three-parter series will release on February 16.
As per Netflix, Jeen-yuhs is “an intimate and revealing portrait of West’s experience, showcasing both his formative days trying to break through and his life today as a global brand and artist.”
It will be directed by Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, who have collaborated with the Grammy-award winning singer in the past, on projects like ‘Two Words’ and ‘Jesus Walks.’
The documentary follows West over a period of 20 years, bringing you never-seen-before footage from 2002. It’ll also focus on the musician’s struggle with dealing with the death of his mother, Donda West, and his failed 2020 presidential election bid. The 1-minute teaser also features cameos from Jay-Z and Pharrell, shot years ago.
Before its OTT debut, the documentary will see a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2022. The documentary was sold to Netflix last year, for a reported fee of $30 million.
Netflix’s competitor, Apple shelled out $26 million for a Billie Eilish documentary called ‘The World’s a Little Blurry.’ Similarly, Amazon too cut a cheque of $25 million for an upcoming Rihanna film that’s directed by Peter Berg.
