Netflix has dropped the trailer of the upcoming Tekken anime, ahead of its launch later this year. Called the Tekken: Bloodline, the series will focus on Jin Kazam, who joined the series in Tekken 3.
The streaming platform has been bolstering its collection of video game-based animated shows for quite some time now, with shows like Castelvania, Arcane and other. If those shows are anything to go by, the Tekken series seems to be in safe hands right now.
Fans have seen many TV and movie adaptations of the iconic ’90s fighting game over the years, including a very forgettable live-action movie in 2010, which earned a whopping zero percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes when it came out. Safe to say, the standards are low.
The trailer starts with Jin’s mother, Jun Kazama, training him before they are attacked by the monstrous Ogre, a boss from the games. It also shows a brief glimpse of many familiar places, all of which culminates into the ‘The King of Iron Fist’ Tournament.
Along with Tekken, Netflix is also developing an animated adaptation of Scott Pilgrim and The Terminator series. Then there’s also the live-action adaptation of One Piece, which started production early this year.
However, Netflix’s animated series has been generating a buzz for a while, with Katsuhiro Harada, producer/director of the Tekken game even sharing the trailer on his Twitter feed. Fans have shared similar excitement about the project.
