Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction epic, Dune, ruled the Oscars 2022 . The film bagged multiple trophies including one for Best Visual Effects. One of the teams behind making Dune look so visually appealing was London-based visual effects and animation company DNEG. The CEO of this VFX company is Indian-origin Namit Malhotra, who has worked with several big names in Hollywood.
Malhotra is the son of Bollywood film producer Naresh Malhotra and grandson of cinematographer MN Malhotra. His company, DNEG, is also the force behind titles like The Dark Knight Rises, Sherlock Holmes, Dunkirk, Altered Carbon, Chernobyl, Last Night In Soho, Foundation, and others.
Malhotra’s company, formerly known as Double Negatives, has won Academy Awards for Ex Machina, Interstellar, First Man, Blade Runner 2049 and Tenet. Malhotra acquired the company back in 2014. The team also worked on the VFX for Daniel Craig-starrer James Bond movie No Time to Die. The film was also nominated of an Oscar.
Earlier, in a conversation with news18, Namit Malhotra said, “It’s a great feeling. It’s the first James Bond movie to get a nomination in this particular category in many, many years. Dune, on the other hand, is the new benchmark of visual effects in storytelling.”
