‘Kaalakaandi’ Actor Akshay Oberoi, Sometimes Doesn’t Recognise Who He Wakes Up With

We talk to him about his flaws, dreams and regrets.

What is your biggest achievement?

Becoming a father.

What is your biggest regret?

I think after my first film, which was a complete disaster, I took too much time off to think and strategize, instead of just working non-stop. I think as an actor you have to be fearless.

What is the one skill every man should have?

Patience.

What is the one thing that all men should know about women?

They are complex and sensitive characters, and they are much, much smarter than we are.

Which is your dominant flaw?

I care too much about the stuff that I love.

The Joey Conundrum: Sex or Food?

Sex.

What is the one thing you always desire?

Respect for my work.

Have you ever woken up the next morning and forgotten your date’s name (Tell us all about it)?

It has happened multiple times. Going out partying and blacking out, it’s not an uncommon thing. (laughs)

Describe a life-changing experience.

College in America.

What is your favourite place on earth?

Amsterdam.

What irritates you the most about people?

People who complain. We all have issues, we all have shit we are going through, but people who sit and crib about it are really frustrating.

Which word/phrase do you overuse the most?

Koi nahi, ho jayega.

If you could be a historical figure for a day, who would it be?

John Lennon.

Which is the scariest thing you have ever done?

I didn’t know it at that point, but I think becoming an actor is a pretty fucking scary decision to make. I was so young, that you could take any risk you wanted.

Which is an overrated virtue, according to you?

A high sense of morality is absolutely overrated.

One film you wish you were a part of?

Barfi!

The best piece of advice you received?

There’s something my Dad told me, “Becoming a star is not in your hands, but becoming an actor is in your hands.”
