Rowan Atkinson Thinks Mr Bean Is A Narcissistic Anarchist
Was Mr Bean A ‘Narcissistic Anarchist’? Rowan Atkinson Weighs In

Rowan Atkinson talked about how his new character is different from Mr Bean

All you ’90s kids, do you remember watching Mr Bean while you were young? Besides making you laugh, did you feel Mr Bean has personality disorders? While we may have never felt like it when we were kids, the actor who played the iconic role feels so. Rowan Atkinson , who is currently promoting his new film, recently said that the character was self-centred.

Mr Bean was a “self-centred, narcissistic anarchist,” according to the creator. “The silent, self-sabotaging master of chaos was also, more generously, perhaps, “a nine-year-old trapped in a man’s body,” he added. He told Times, “A lot of people didn’t like the inevitable and justifiable feeling that things were going to go wrong.”

Having said that, it seems like Atkinson has a better notion about the roles he is doing now. Take, for example, his role in the upcoming Netflix series Man vs Bee. He plays the role of a divorced father, Trevor, who goes through a lot of trouble to fund a holiday with her daughter. He takes up an odd job to protect a mansion belonging to an absent rich couple from a tireless bee. The actor feels Trevor is much ‘sweeter’ than Bean.

“Trevor is different. He is a much nicer and much sweeter and more normal person, I hope — and that was certainly our aim…he seems like a sweet, well-intentioned, perfectly intelligent man, but, of course, he’s got fault lines, his weak spots, and his weak spot is his obsessiveness,” he added.

Man vs Bee is an upcoming British comedy series created and written by Rowan Atkinson and William Davies. David Kerr has directed the show. which will also star Jing Lusi, Claudie Blakley, Tom Basden, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Greg McHugh and India Fowler. The series will arrive on Netflix on June 24th.
