‘Modern Love Mumbai’ Review: Amazon Prime Video’s Anthology Strikes A Chord With The Audience

Six acclaimed directors came together to put together the anthology series that showcases heart-warming films

Amazon Prime Video India recently announced their jam-packed slate of 2022 releases. Amongst the many exciting shows and films lined up for the coming months, people were most excited for Modern Love: MumbaiThe Hindi spin-off of the massive hit series, Modern Love, the Indian version got together six filmmakers and some really stellar casts to showcase six different stories about love. 

 

The anthology brought together six Indian filmmakers — Vishal Bhardwaj, Hansal Mehta, Shonali Bose, Dhruv Sehgal, Alankrita Shrivastava, and Nupur Asthana — to narrate stories about love. The cast in these short stories included names like Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pratik Gandhi, Ranveer Brar, Masaba Gupta, Ritwik Bhowmik, Prateik Babbar, Chitrangda Singh, Arshad Warsi and more. 

The trailer had already impressed fans, and considering how much everyone loves the genre of romantic stories, a lot of people hoped that the show would be good. The Amazon Prime original premiered today on May 13th, and Twitter has been flooded with love for the show. The stories, the beautiful scenes and the strong messages through these stories have struck a chord with the viewers, clearly indicating that the series is a hit.

The series features stories that are rooted in the heart of Mumbai. The anthology includes Raat Rani – directed by Shonali Bose, starring Fatima Sana Shaikh, Bhupendra Jadawat, and Dilip Prabhavalkar; Baai – directed by Hansal Mehta, starring Tanuja, Pratik Gandhi, and Ranveer Brar; Mumbai Dragon – directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, starring Yeo Yann Yann, Meiyang Chang, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Naseeruddin Shah. 

 

Other stories in Modern Love: Mumbai include My Beautiful Wrinkles – directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, starring Sarika, Danesh Razvi, Ahsaas Channa, and Tanvi Azmi; I Love Thane – directed by Dhruv Sehgal, starring Masaba Gupta, Ritwik Bhowmik, Prateik Babbar, Aadar Malik and Dolly Singh and Cutting Chai – directed by Nupur Asthana, starring Chitrangda Singh and Arshad Warsi. 

The other adaptations of the series include Modern Love: Chennai and Modern Love: Hyderabad.
