Netflix recently announced that former First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming was set to be made into a documentary. This documentary, which is made in collaboration with Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company will follow Obama as she goes on tour to promote her bestselling memoir.
While the documentary is directed by Nadia Hallgren, it appears that the film had extensive input from Obama herself. As mentioned above, the film has been produced by Higher Ground Productions which is the company formed by the Obamas to create content for Spotify, Netflix and the like.
“In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams,” says Obama in a letter that accompanied the announcement.
This year’s Oscar for Best Documentary Feature went to American Factory which is the first film to come out of Higher Ground’s production deal with the OTT platform. According to Netflix, the documentary is set to release on the 6th of May this year.
