Gangubai was a massive success at the box office, and also one of the few releases in 2022 that revived the business in theatres after the pandemic’s lull. Soon after a successful run in cinemas, the film was released on OTT via Netflix and gave the global audience easy access to streaming the film. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Gangubai Kathiawadi starred Alia Bhatt in the lead and touched many hearts with its powerful narrative. Fast forward to now, a Gangubai-inspired fashion show, which was organized in Malaysia, saw takers by the hordes.

A renowned Malaysia-based boutique, Nik Aswat organized the aforementioned fashion gig. The theme was centered around Bhatt’s signature looks from Gangubai Kathiawadi. Models sashayed down the runway in white gowns and sarees along with sunglasses. The huge bindis and a rose-adorned updo gave a whiff of Bhatt’s character on the ramp. The show was a part of the Northern Haute Couture Fashion Show 2022.  

That aside, here’s an interesting titbit on the movie: Gangubai has been screened at international festivals and received an eight-minute standing ovation during its worldwide premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. Reminiscing about the premiere, Bhansali said, “The audience in Berlin clapped at my song Dholida. They enjoyed the music, humor, and anger in my film. They clapped for eight minutes after the film was over. When I heard that standing ovation, I got my answer. It made all the pain and effort worth the while.” 

As for Alia Bhatt, she gave another massive hit after Gangubai. The 29-year-old was last seen in Darlings and was showered with love for her stupendous performance. She is currently on a break post the birth of her first child with Ranbir Kapoor. The duo welcomed a baby girl on November 6.
